A former leading fashion model who was 5'10'' tall. Carey was popular with high-end American designers, including Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father was a prominent scientist and was awarded the title of Scientist of 1979 by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. The father of Carey was a geologist and traveled around the world as part of his profession. When she was attending an institution called the University of Colorado at part-time, she caught the interest of the Ford model Agency representative in New York. Her move to France in the year 1980, and lived for a short time in Paris as well as Bordeaux prior to deciding to move back in New York to continue with her education at college and build a modeling career. She soon began appearing on the covers of Vogue, Glamour, etc. When she was modeling as she studied in full-time a major in literature in New York University. While she was studying acting at Neighborhood Playhouse, New York, her enthusiasm for the field grew. Her debut as an actor was an appearance alongside Robin Williams in the 1986 film "Club Pardise. In her spare time she loves skiing, windsurfing, climbing rocks as well as whitewater kayaking.
